As a Ph.D student, consulting is an attractive industry for the following reasons: 1. Shorter project timescales. In academia, projects can drag out for several months and into years. I think I would enjoy a higher turnover rate of projects. 2. Diverse business situations. I really like the way that similar methods for analysing and solving problems are useful in a wide range of contexts. 3. Industrial relevance. Instead of specalising in esoteric fields of academic research, I like the fact that consulting can make a measurable impact to organisations. |
