About the Tom Spencer consulting blog
This blog is written primarily out of a desire to learn about how to create and grow profitable companies, and how to invest the proceeds. This blog is also motivated by a desire to explore and de-mystify the management consulting industry in general.
I hope that this blog might serve as a forum for the accumulation of useful ideas, comments and questions on areas relating to management consulting, business strategy, investing, and other areas that take our interest from time to time. To begin with, my posts will be pretty basic as I attempt to establish a general base level understanding of business, consulting and investment. This is an extremely broad field of knowledge and includes, among other things
- business management,
- business strategy,
- consulting,
- economics,
- finance,
- investment,
- law, and
- tax.
If you have an idea, request or suggestion for a new articles, please let me know. My email address is tom@tomspencer.com.au.
In reading this blog, it is important to remember that I am not an expert in any of these fields, so you should use your own common sense before relying on any of this information.
Special thanks go to James Cox, creator of the James Cox finance blog. James, this blog is one of the many things that would not be possible without you.–
About me
As you may have guessed from the ever so slightly narcissistic name of this blog, my name is Tom Spencer.
I completed seven years of tertiary education at the end of 2007. While I have no present desire to return to a formal learning environment, I have come to the realisation that the end of university was not the end of my learning, but merely the beginning.
I graduated high school from St Aloysuis’ College in 2000.
I obtained a Bachelor of Commerce (honours) and Bachelor of Laws (honours) from the University of Sydney. For my Commerce degree I majored in Economics and Econometrics, with a particular focus on microeconomics and game theory. My final year law electives included Advanced Corporate Law, Mergers & Acquisitions, and International Commercial Transactions.
I spent my final semester of law school studying abroad at Bucerius Law School in Hamburg, Germany.
